Akamine Hiroshi

Kaicho, Hanshi 9 dan.

He was born in 1954 in Tomigusuku, Okinawa, the fourth son of Eisuke Akamine, second president of the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai.

He began learning karate with his father at the age of six. In junior high school he started training in Shorin-ryu Kyudokan under Shijin Gushiken. He continued kobudo under his father.

After his father passed away in 1999, he became the third president of the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai and head of the Shimbukan dojo. In May 2011, after twelve years in that post, he stepped down. That July he founded the organisation Ryukyu Kobudo Shimbukan, and followed Hiroshi Sawada as the second president of Okinawa Shorin-ryu Mukenkai.

The kobudo he teaches was shaped by Shinken Taira and carried on by Eisuke Akamine. It holds more than 40 kata on 8 weapons. Bo and sai are the foundation, with tekko, nunchaku, tonfa, tinbe + rochin, kama and eku beside them.

Hiroshi Akamine is one of the leading experts in kobudo and karate. He holds 9th dan in both arts, teaches at the Shimbukan dojo in Okinawa, and is invited to seminars around the world.
